Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

We want to point out that this facility really outperformed its overall score in the category of inspections. In fact, it received a nearly flawless inspection report this year. As a result, we gave it one of our best grades in this area with an A-. Our inspection ratings account for several factors found on a nursing home's inspection reports. One key criteria we consider is the number and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with higher scores in this category tend to have very few severe deficiencies. While this place had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. A couple of minor deficiencies should not stop you from considering a nursing home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The second most favorable area we gave this facility in any area came in the category of long-term care, where we gave it a grade of B-. For residents in need of a permanent residence rather than skilled nursing, long-term care is an important category. One of the factors we considered in addition to nurse's aid hours was vaccinations. Thankfully, this nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccination to 99.10715 percent of its residents. Finally, this facility was also able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

Another strength of this facility is its favorable grade in nursing. We gave them one of our better scores in that area, with a grade of D. In determining a facility's nursing grade, we look at the amount of time nurses spend with residents as well as the skill levels of the nurses. This particular facility averaged a meager 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident daily. This number is significantly below average. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in computing our nursing grades. This place performed well when it comes to avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. Many consider these areas to be good measures of the quality of nursing care.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The final area we rated was short-term care. Sadly, it received a lowly F for this area, which is a rock bottom score. This is obviously a significant concern. Short-term care scores are based on the nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled nursing services. This means a vast scope of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, not to mention other variations of therapy. With a grade of this caliber in this area, we weren't surprised to find this nursing home was below average in multiple staffing metrics we focus on. In fact, it supplied significantly fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other nursing homes. Finally, we assessed the percentage of residents that ultimately were able to return home from this facility. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 4.7 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit off the national average.
