Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

The primary reason this facility received a decent overall score is its impeccable health inspections in recent years. We gave it one of our higher grades in that area, with an A+. This is a much better grade than the place's overall score, which was decent but certainly not elite. Inspection ratings weigh several factors found on a nursing home's inspection reports. One key criteria we weigh heavily is the number and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with higher scores in this area usually have few of these severe deficiencies. This nursing home was assessed 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe deficiencies. This means that the inspectors didn't consider any of these deficiencies to pose an imminent threat to resident safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

Turning to an additional strength for this nursing home, it also received a top-shelf long-term care score. In fact, we gave this nursing home a score of A. Facilities that receive this type of score in long-term care tend to provide consistent around the clock care to ensure patients are kept in good health. Once we assessed the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is far higher than most nursing homes. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Unfortunately, this facility only received a grade of D for its short-term care score, which is not an impressive grade. Short-term care grades are meaningful for residents requiring rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually mandates more highly-skilled nursing. This includes a broad scope of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other types of therapy. Unfortunately, this nursing home was below average in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its residents based on the measures we assessed. Finally, we looked at the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that just 0 percent of this facility's residents returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

Switching gears to our fourth area, this nursing home didn't perform well. With a bottom of the barrel grade of F in nursing, this is this nursing home's worst category. There are quite a few factors within this area. Many of the criteria reflect staffing levels. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in computing our nursing ratings. This place fared well in the area of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. Many consider these areas to be indicators of the quality of nursing care.
