Facility Inspections
On top of having a decent overall rating, we also would like to point out that this nursing home received favorable health inspections in recent years. We awarded it one of our better grades in that area, with a B+. This is a much better grade than the nursing home's overall grade. Inspection ratings take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these items by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this place had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is always a good sign.
Long-term Care Quality
We also awarded this facility a strong score in long-term care. This facility earned a B+ in this area, which happens to be one of our more impressive scores. For residents seeking a permanent residence as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care is an important category. On top of looking at the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 86.29032 percent of its patients, which is a few points below what we anticipated. While its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we like to see, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 1.25 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home has less hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes.
Short-term Care Quality
The next area we graded was short-term care. In that area, we awarded this nursing home a C. In the category of short-term care, we seek to assess measures of a facility's rehabilitation services. We look at a facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses and various therapists. In this nursing home's case, we were surprised to learn that it actually provides less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. The hope is always that this does not adversely affect the quality of care. Finally, we assessed the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that it performed decently in this area, with 48.1 percent of its residents returning home.
Nurse Quality
The next area we scored is nursing, which ended up being this facility's weakest area. We awarded this facility a D in this area. The nursing grade assesses many factors, but the most important consideration is the number of nurse hours per patient per week. This nursing home provided only 3 hours of nursing care per patient each day. Lastly, we also looked at a few quality measures in computing our nursing ratings. This nursing home was above average in two of the metrics we considered, with good scores for avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.
