Facility Inspections

Grade: C

While this nursing home's overall grade was as bad as it gets, it actually didn't perform terribly in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a grade of C for that category, which is one of our better scores. Inspection scores are tied to several datapoints located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are an important thing to look for on these inspections. Severe deficiencies indicate a risk to patient safety. This place had 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to find that none were in any of the categories labeled G through L. This indicates it dodged the more ominous classes of deficiencies. Unfortunately, we also need to draw your attention to the fact that this facility received significant government fines in recent years.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

Surprisingly, we awarded this nursing home a grade of C for our long-term care grade, which really isn't a bad grade. For prospective patients seeking a permanent place to live rather than rehabilitation, long-term care grades are a key measure. One of the statistics we considered after nursing hours was vaccinations. Candidly, we were a bit alarmed this facility provided the pneumonia vaccine to a relatively low 56.016598 percent of its residents. On a more positive note, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

We were stunned to find that this nursing home also excelled in the area of nursing. In fact, we gave it a grade of D for that category, which is one of our highest scores. Our nursing grade analyzes the facility's level of nurse staffing. We factor in both the levels of training of those nurses as well as the quantity of hours spent with residents. With just 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis, this nursing home's nurse staffing levels were quite a bit below the national average. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing grades. This nursing home fared well in the area of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The final area we looked at was short-term care, where this facility received a poor grade in this area also. It received a lowly F for this area, which is obviously a major disappointment. In computing our short-term care scores, we size up a facility's levels of skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other highly trained professionals. This grade is typically a meaningful measure of the facility's rehabilitation. With a grade of this caliber in this category, we weren't stunned to discover that this place was well below average in multiple staffing metrics we looked at. It provided far fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than most facilities. The last metric we looked at in this area is the percentage of residents that ultimately returned home from the nursing home. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 4.6 percent of its patients returning home. This was well below the national average.
