In addition to performing well in its overall grade, this facility received even higher marks in the area of nursing. In fact, we gave it one of our highest grades in that category with an A. We looked at the skill-level of nurses employed by the facility, in addition to the quantity of hours the nurses spent with residents, in computing our grade in this area. This particular nursing home provided 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality-based metrics and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place the country in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as by having a protocol of moving a patient more often.

In addition, this facility earned excellent health inspections in recent years. We awarded them one of our better scores in that category, with an A-. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining our inspection grades. One key factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more important than the number of deficiencies, as some of these can be relatively minor. We were not able to find deficiency counts for this nursing home. Without having complete deficiency related data for this facility, it ended up being a challenge to really grade it in this area.

Turning to our third area, this nursing home also received a score of B+ for its short-term care rating. This is an above average grade in this area. Our short-term care ratings are critical for people seeking rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually mandates additional highly-skilled nursing. This means a vast spectrum of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not every nursing home employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, according to the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Finally, we looked at the number of residents that ultimately returned home from this nursing home. We found that 3.8 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

The final area we assessed was long-term care, was this facility's least impressive area. We awarded this facility a D in that area. This is one of the few weak points on a quality report card. If you are looking for services other than short-term rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each nursing home's long-term care grades. After assessing the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination data. We were pleased to find that this facility vaccinated 96.15385 percent of its patients against pneumonia. To our surprise, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility has less hospitalizations than many nursing homes. Sadly, some of its other scores in the category weren't as favorable as these.
