Short-term Care Quality
To pair with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for its nursing grade. In forming these short-term care grades, we quantify the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. Our goal is to devise a tool for sizing up the rehabilitation services of various facilities. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not every facility employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the data they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The last metric we looked at in this category is the number of patients that were able to return home from the facility. We found that 6.7 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we rated this facility so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing score. In that category, we gave this nursing home a grade of A+. When determining our nursing scores, we assess both staffing levels and the skill levels of those nurses. This nursing home provides 0.6 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This nursing home performed very well when it comes to minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Facility Inspections
Moving on to our inspection category, this facility excelled in that category, which is based on the facility's recent government inspection reports. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A for that category. These inspection grades weigh several factors, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can learn more about each of these factors by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this place had a few deficiencies on its report, none were serious based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
The last area we graded is long-term care, where this facility was awarded a grade of A. This rounded out a very favorable report card. Very few nursing homes received an A- or better in in each area we assessed. When facilities receive a score in this range in this category it generally means it's well-staffed and is a quality place to live on a permanent basis. Once we looked at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we next considered the facility's vaccination statistics. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is much higher than the majority of nursing homes. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
