Facility Inspections
We want to point out that this nursing home outperformed its overall score in the category of inspections. In fact, it received an excellent government inspection report this year. As a result, we gave it one of our best scores in that category with an A+. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating these inspection scores. One of those factors is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more important than the number of deficiencies, as some of these can be quite insignificant. While this nursing home had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Remember that deficiency-free inspection reports are uncommon in this industry.
Short-term Care Quality
In addition, we also would like to draw your attention to the fact that this nursing home was given positive short-term care marks in this assessment. We awarded them one of our more impressive grades in this category, with a B. This proved to be the nursing home's second strongest score. Short-term care ratings are crucial for prospective residents seeking rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically utilizes more highly-skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing means a broad spectrum of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other types of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this facility employs registered nurses. Not every nursing home employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, according to the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last statistic we assessed in this area is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the facility and return home. We discovered that 5.7 percent of this nursing home's patients were able to return home.

Nurse Quality
This nursing home's next best category was nursing. We awarded it a grade of C in this category. This is basically a middle of the road grade in this category. Nursing scores are based in large part on nurse staffing levels. This place averages just 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient daily, which is not an impressive total. Finally, our nursing ratings also consider quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. Despite not having the most impressive total nursing hours, this facility performed admirably in the area of preventing major falls. This is usually a good indicator that a nursing home has quality controls in place. Some falls can be avoided if a facility supplies enough nurses to assist its patients.
Long-term Care Quality
The final area we rated was long-term care, is this nursing home's least impressive area. We awarded this nursing home a grade of D in that category. This was one of the few weak points in a strong report card. For prospective residents seeking a permanent residence as opposed to rehabilitation, long-term care is an important category. After looking at the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination record. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is better than most nursing homes. To our surprise, this facility also keeps its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had just 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Sadly, a few of its other scores in the category were not as favorable as these.
