Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

To go along with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for our inspections rating. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in calculating these inspection ratings. One key factor is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some of these can be quite minor. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

Contributing to this facility's list of strengths, it also was awarded a very favorable long-term care score. We gave them a dominant grade of A- in this category. Facilities that do well in long-term care tend to be well-staffed and offer extensive hands on care to residents. One of the datapoints we considered on top of nursing hours is vaccinations. This facility provided the pneumonia vaccination to 97.7918 percent of its patients. This is a proven method to avoid unnecessary deaths and hospitalizations for the senior population. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

Another one of this facility's impressive category grades came in the area of nursing care. We awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with a grade of B+. There are a host of factors within this area. Most of these datapoints relate to levels of nurse staffing. This particular nursing home provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This place performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can frequently be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The last category we looked at was short-term care, where this facility was awarded a C. Although this turned out to be its worst category score, this is nevertheless not the end of the world. Our short-term care grades are probably more meaningful for patients needing rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation generally utilizes higher levels of highly-skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing means not just nursing, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other types of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. However, according to the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Finally, we looked at the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 4.5 percent of this facility's patients returned home. At most facilities, closer to half of their patients are able to return home so this figure is below average.
