One of the reasons this place ended up being a great nursing home is it earned an A+ in our inspections category. This is as good as it gets in this critical category. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the nation in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can frequently be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as employing a system of turning a patient more often.

This nursing home also fared very well in the category of long-term care, where we gave it a score of A-. Few nursing homes fared better in this category. For prospective patients looking for a permanent residence rather than rehabilitation, long-term care is a very important category. On top of looking at the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 88.297874 percent of its residents. This is slightly lower than we anticipated. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

The final area we rated is short-term care. In that category, we gave this facility a solid grade of B-. This actually turned out to be this nursing home's least impressive category. In computing our short-term care scores, we assess the facility's levels of highly skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other highly trained professionals. This category is more often than not a fair assessment of a facility's rehabilitation. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not every facility employs these skilled professionals. However, according to the data they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final statistic we assessed in this category is the number of patients that returned home from the nursing home. We found that just 3.9 percent of this facility's residents returned home. Unfortunately, this was below average.
