This nursing home received a strong overall grade as described above, but we especially would like to point out its excellent government inspections in recent years. We awarded it an A in this area. Inspection ratings are tied to many pieces of information located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that receive favorable grades in this area typically have few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. Fortunately, although this nursing home had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that CMS didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. We should note that deficiency-free inspections are rare in this industry.

This facility is also strong in the area of long-term care, where it was given a grade of B+. It outpaced most nursing homes in this category. Facilities that receive this kind of score in long-term care tend to provide consistent 24/7 care to make sure residents are kept in good health. After looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 93.56725 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is somewhat less than we were hoping for but still a decent percentage. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Turning to an additional strength for this nursing home, we awarded them one of our stronger grades in our short-term care category as well, with a grade of B. In computing our short-term care grades, we quantify the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. Our purpose is to create a barometer for comparing the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not every facility employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, according to the information they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Finally, we considered the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 5.2 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

The final category we scored was nursing, where this nursing home was awarded a grade of B-. This ended up being this nursing home's least impressive category. This is still not the end of the world. When computing our nursing grades, we look at both staffing levels and the training levels of the nurses. This facility averages 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident daily, which is a very low figure. Lastly, we look at quality-based statistics, such as the percentage of patients who experienced pressure ulcers and major falls. Sometimes these metrics are decent indicators of the quality of nursing care.
