Nurse Quality
In addition to a phenomenal overall grade, this facility also received A+ nursing grade. Our nursing grade includes several subcategories, but the most important one is the number of nurse hours spent with patients. This place boasts a really impressive 6.8 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis, of which a significant portion of those hours were provided by registered nurses. This is one of the most highly trained levels of nurses. This is among the higher totals of nursing hours we found. On top of providing impressive levels of care, this facility also excelled in several of the quality measures we assessed. With less than 5 percent of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, it fared as well as any place the state in this category. This is usually an indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls. Many pressure ulcers could be avoided by providing better nursing care and having a system of turning residents more frequently.
Long-term Care Quality
In addition, this facility received elite marks in the area of long-term care. For this reason, it was given one of our highest scores in that category with a grade of A+. Nursing homes that do well in this category typically are well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to patients. After considering the very impressive nursing hours provided by this facility, we next considered the facility's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 97.07792 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is significantly higher than most nursing homes. This combination proved to be successful as this facility keeps its residents out of the hospital. While it had 2.74 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, its risk adjusted statistic was better than most nursing homes due to it having some more complicated patients.
Short-term Care Quality
Turning to our next area, this nursing home also earned a grade of B for its short-term care rating. This is an above average grade in this category. Our short-term care scores are probably more meaningful for people requiring a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically mandates more skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes not merely nursing, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other types of therapy. This place provides more services with physical therapists and registered nurses than most facilities we looked at. This is definitely a great sign. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of patients that returned home from this facility. We found that 26.4 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.
Facility Inspections
Finally, we also awarded this nursing home a B- for our inspections category. This facility didn't have any major weaknesses. We believe that one of the most critical factors in assessing an inspection report is deficiencies. In this regard, we especially focus on the severity of the deficiencies. This nursing home was hit with 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe. This tells you that the government inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies to be an immediate threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
