Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

To go along with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for our inspections rating. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining these inspection scores. One critical factor is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies can be relatively insignificant. Although this place had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. A couple minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

Additionally, this nursing home also received favorable short-term care grades this year. Indeed, we gave them one of our higher scores in that area, with a grade of B+. In determining our short-term care grades, we analyze the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The purpose is to formulate a tool for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different facilities. Fortunately, it looks like this facility employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. However, based on the data they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Finally, we considered the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 0 percent of this facility's residents returned home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

Additionally, this nursing home also was awarded favorable long-term care grades in our assessment. Indeed, we gave them one of our better grades in that area, with a grade of B+. Facilities that receive this type of score in this category typically provide consistent around the clock care to make sure residents are kept in good health. After we finished assessing the amount of care provided by nurses, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination record. This facility vaccinated 99.553566 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia sadly is often a life or death illness for nursing home residents so we strongly prefer when a nursing home does not roll the dice on this issue. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

In the final category, this nursing home also was given a very strong nursing rating, with a B+. This finished off an elite report card. Our nursing rating features many factors. The most heavily weighted factor is the amount of time nurses spend with residents. This facility provided 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at some quality-based measures in this category. This nursing home fared well in some of the quality measures we looked at. For example, in terms of the percentage of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, this nursing home performed better than the national average. This is generally an indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Pressure ulcers can typically be prevented with better nursing care.
