Registered Staff Hours
Nurse Quality
Although we gave this facility a terrible overall grade, we awarded it a grade of B- for our nursing rating. In determining a facility's nursing rating, we assess the quantity of hours nurses are caring for residents as well as the levels of training of the nurses. This nursing home provided just 0.2 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This is a relatively low total compared to most nursing homes. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality measures. While this facility got dinged a bit for nursing hours per resident, it excelled in a few of these quality metrics. With fewer than five percent of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, it performed very well in this subcategory. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can frequently be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as having a policy of turning a resident even once per day.
Short-term Care Quality
We were also surprised to find that this facility received a decent short-term care rating this year. We gave it a B- in that area. With our short-term care grade, we try to create a sound measure for rehabilitation services. In this process, we look at a nursing home's offerings of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. Unfortunately, we found that this facility provided fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other facilities. The last datapoint we assessed in this area is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return home. We discovered that just 0 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is actually below average.

Facility Inspections
Unfortunately, this facility didn't receive glowing inspections in recent years. We gave it a grade of just D for our inspections rating. Our inspection scores account for several factors included in a nursing home's inspection report. One key criteria we rely on is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. This particular facility was assessed 4 deficiencies by CMS. The only positive thing we can say is that none of the deficiencies were in the categories that suggest that they created a risk to resident health or safety. Lastly, this nursing home was cited by CMS for possible abuse or neglect. This is generally a really bad sign. We would never recommend this facility.
Long-term Care Quality
The final category we graded was long-term care. This facility was given a rock bottom grade of F in that area. In a long-term care environment, the nursing home's primary objective is to maintain patients' quality of life and keep them safe. On top of looking at the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 95.71429 percent of its residents, which is better than the majority of nursing homes. Surprisingly, this place was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had just 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Sadly, a few of its other scores in the category were not as favorable as these.
