Facility Inspections

Grade: A

To go along with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A for our inspections rating. Perhaps the most critical factor we consider in computing our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes with higher scores in this category typically avoided the most severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. Fortunately, although this nursing home had some minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that the government inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

Among the reasons we graded this facility so favorably is that it received a favorable long-term care score. In fact, long-term care ended up being its second best category score. In that area, we gave this facility a grade of A-. Long-term care grades of this caliber generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. In addition to looking at the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents. Vaccines are critical to keeping residents healthy. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

This facility's next best category grade came in the area of nursing. In that category, we gave this nursing home a grade of B-. This wasn't quite on par with some of its other category grades mentioned above. Our nursing score assesses a handful of subcategories, many of which are associated with quantities of nurse staffing. This particular nursing home provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This figure is significantly below average. Finally, while this facility got docked a bit for its nursing hours, it actually excelled in a few of our quality-based measures. With fewer than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed well in this area.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The last area we analyzed was short-term care. We awarded this facility a grade of B- in that category. With our short-term care assessment, we strive to craft a sound measure for rehabilitation services. In doing so, we analyze a nursing home's scope of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear that this facility provided registered nurse or physical therapist staffing data. The last item we looked at in this area is the percentage of patients who eventually returned home from the nursing home. We found that just 0 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.
