Facility Inspections
On top of being a strong facility overall, it also received A+ health inspections in recent years. Its inspections were nearly perfect. Inspection scores take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these factors by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this place had a few deficiencies on its report, none of them were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
One of the other reasons we rated this facility so highly is that it was given a dominant long-term care grade. In fact, long-term care ended up being its second most impressive category grade. In that area, we awarded this facility a score of A-. Long-term care ratings in this range generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. On top of assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is very impressive. Pneumonia is too frequently a deadly condition for nursing home residents so we like it when a facility doesn't roll the dice on this issue. Finally, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Short-term Care Quality
This facility really excelled in the category of short-term care, where we awarded it a score of A-. Only a select group of nursing homes performed more favorably in this area. Our short-term care scores are vital for prospective residents requiring rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically mandates more highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes a broad scope of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other types of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not every facility employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final datapoint we looked at in this area is the number of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We found that 5.8 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.
Nurse Quality
Switching gears to the last area, this facility received a respectable nursing rating. Although this was not as strong as many of its other scores, this is truly not a poor grade. We looked at the qualifications of nurses at the facility, as well as the number of hours those nurses spent with residents, in determining our grade in this category. This place provides only 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This is a somewhat alarming figure which is well below average. Finally, our nursing ratings also factor in some quality-focused metrics. We look at the percentage of patients who suffered pressure ulcers and major falls. These statistics are measures of the quality of nursing care, since superior care tends to reduce these problems.
