Registered Staff Hours
While we graded this facility incredibly poorly overall, it received a fairly respectable nursing grade this year. We gave it a C in that category. The nursing grade consists of many factors, but the paramount one is the level of nurse hours spent with patients. This nursing home averages 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient each day, which is not an impressive total. Lastly, while this nursing home got dinged a bit for nursing hours, it actually excelled in some of our quality-based measures. With fewer than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it fared well in this area.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home's second highest category is long-term care, but it still earned a grade of just D in that area. This turns out to be a relatively poor score. If you are looking for anything other than short-term rehabilitation, you should take a close look at long-term care ratings. One of the criteria we considered in addition to nursing hours is vaccines. Fortunately, this facility administered the pneumonia vaccination to 100 percent of its residents. Surprisingly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home has fewer hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes. Unfortunately, a few of its other scores in this category were not as favorable as these.

Short-term Care Quality
Sadly, this nursing home only earned a D for its short-term care score, which is well below average in this category. Our short-term care ratings are arguably most critical for residents in need of rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation usually utilizes higher levels of highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing means not only nursing services, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. As you might expect, we discovered that this nursing home offers substantially less registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than the typical facility. The final measure we considered in this category is the number of patients who eventually returned home from the facility. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 5.7 percent of its residents returning home.
In our final area of inspections, this nursing home received an F in this area. Since this data is collected by government inspectors, we heavily weight negative feedback in this area. When a nursing home has this bad of an inspection score, you should look for severe deficiencies on its inspection report. Severe deficiencies indicate a risk to patient safety. This nursing home was assessed a category G through L deficiency, which rank among the more serious categories of deficiencies. This generally indicates that the deficiencies uncovered by the government inspectors had the potential to cause actual harm to patients. Finally, this facility also received 12 substantiated complaints in recent years. This is yet another bad sign.
