Facility Inspections
While this nursing home's overall grade was not a highlight, it actually really excelled in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A for that category, which is one of our best scores. Our inspection scores weigh a host of factors included in a nursing home's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we consider is the number and severity of deficiencies. You generally want to avoid places with a bunch of severe deficiencies flagged. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. In spite of this deficiency, this was still a relatively positive inspection report.
Long-term Care Quality
Moving on to the area of long-term care, this nursing home was given a grade of just D in that category. Sadly, this proved to be one of its best areas. Nursing homes that do not score well in long-term care often don't provide as much nursing care and also may be lagging in a few of the areas of routine medical care we looked at. One of the statistics we considered in addition to nurse's aid hours was vaccinations. Frankly, we were a bit worried that this nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccine to only 88.0829 percent of its patients. Surprisingly, this facility was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility had fewer hospitalizations than the average nursing home. This is its best score in this category.

Nurse Quality
This facility's next best category was nursing, but even there it received a grade of just D. This is still a well below average grade. Our nursing category assesses a handful of components, many of which are based on nursing hours. This nursing home offered just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This is an alarmingly low total. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing ratings. This nursing home fared well in the area of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.
Short-term Care Quality
Switching gears to the fourth area, we awarded this facility a grade of D for our short-term care category. This is the nursing home's worst category grade. Our short-term care grades are probably more important for residents requiring a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally utilizes additional highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes not just nursing services, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. Based on its weak grade in this category, we weren't shocked to find this nursing home provides substantially fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other nursing homes. The last measure we considered in this area is the percentage of residents who were able to return home from the nursing home. This facility struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 4.1 percent of its residents returning home. Unfortunately, this was quite a bit below average.
