Registered Staff Hours
The primary reason this nursing home received a decent overall score is its impeccable health inspections in recent years. We gave them one of our higher grades in that category, with an A. This is a much better grade than the facility's overall score, which was decent but certainly not elite. Our inspection ratings are based on items located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that excel in this category typically have very few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these places generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Based on this, we still had a generally favorable view of this facility's recent inspections.
Short-term Care Quality
The second best category we awarded this facility in any category came in the area of short-term care, where we gave it a grade of C. Our short-term care ratings are crucial for people requiring rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically utilizes higher levels of skilled nursing. Skilled nursing means a vast spectrum of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other types of therapy. In this place's case, we were surprised to learn that it actually provides less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. The hope is always that this does not adversely impact the quality of care. Lastly, we considered the percentage of patients who returned home from this nursing home. We found that 4.9 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was well below average.

Long-term Care Quality
Sadly, this nursing home's next highest score was long-term care. As it turns out, with a grade of D in this area, it still fared somewhat badly. For long-term care residents, the facility's primary objective is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. On top of assessing the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 94.50262 percent of its residents, which is higher than most nursing homes. To our surprise, this nursing home was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had just 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Sadly, some of its other scores in the category weren't as favorable as these.
This nursing home's least impressive area was nursing, which is the last category we analyzed. In this area, we awarded this nursing home a D. The nursing rating weighs a number of factors. The most important factor is the quantity of hours nurses spend with residents. This nursing home provided a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident daily. This is an alarmingly low total. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in calculating our nursing scores. This nursing home fared well in the area of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls.
