Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

We gave this facility one of our better grades in short-term care, where it received an A. This is notably better than its overall score, which was certainly not elite. In crafting our short-term care scores, we quantify the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The goal is to formulate a measure for comparing the rehabilitation services of various nursing homes. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not every nursing home employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, based on the data they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last datapoint we assessed in this category is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that 5.5 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

Long-term Care Quality

We also awarded this nursing home an impressive score in long-term care. This nursing home earned a grade of B+ in this area, which turns out to be one of our more impressive scores. For residents in need of a permanent residence rather than skilled nursing, long-term care grades are very important. One of the datapoints we considered on top of nursing hours was vaccines. This nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccine to 86.64495 percent of its residents. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This place performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can often be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Facility Inspections

The final category we assessed is inspections. This nursing home did not receive favorable inspections in recent years. We gave it an F in this category. This pulled down this nursing home's overall score quite a bit. You should pay close attention to any deficiencies on a nursing home's inspection reports when it receives this poor of an inspection score. The only positive thing we found is that none of the deficiencies were in the categories that suggest they caused a risk to resident health or safety. Finally, we want to point out that this place was assessed large government fines of more than $50,000. This generally means that CMS inspectors became fed up after multiple years of bad health inspections.
