Medical Staff Hours Per Patient (2019)
Nurse Quality
In addition to receiving a great overall grade, this nursing home received an A+ for nursing. When computing our nursing scores, we factor in both nursing hours and the skill levels of the nurses. This facility provided 5 hours of nursing care per patient daily, which is among the better totals in the country. A significant percentage of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which are one of the most highly skilled levels of nurses. We were really impressed by both of these figures. In addition to offering high levels of nursing care, this nursing home also excelled in the quality-based metrics we assessed. It performed as well as any nursing home in the country in terms of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.
Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home also received an A+ for its short-term care grade. In crafting these short-term care grades, we look at the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The goal is to devise a tool for comparing the rehabilitation services of various nursing homes. One of this facility's strengths is it provides more than an hour of care per day from registered nurses to each resident. This is the gold standard in this area, as it's about 1.5 times higher than the typical facility's level of registered nurse staffing. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of patients who were able to return home from this facility. This place outperformed the vast majority of nursing homes in the nation in this area with 67.4 percent of its residents returning home. This is a much higher rate than most nursing homes.
Facility Inspections
The next category we looked at was inspections, where this facility also received an A+ grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this critical category. Perhaps the most important factor we look at in determining our inspection scores is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes with higher scores in this area typically avoided the most severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear that we have information on deficiency's for this nursing home. We would like to have more information about this nursing home. Without having access to all of the information regarding deficiencies, it ended up being difficult to evaluate the place in the area of inspections.
Long-term Care Quality
The final area we graded was long-term care, in which this nursing home received a B. Believe it or not, this proved to be this facility's worst area. A nursing home is doing something right when their poorest score still is better than most other nursing homes. When nursing homes receive a score in this range in long-term care it typically means it has plenty of staff and is an overall good place to reside on a permanent basis. On top of providing very favorable levels of nursing care and other staffing, this nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccine to 98.46154 percent of its residents. This figure is also much higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. This combination proved to be successful as this place also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
