Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

To go along with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for our inspections rating. Perhaps the most significant factor we look at in determining our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Nursing homes with better scores in this area typically avoided the most severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. We weren't able to find deficiency data for this nursing home. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

Contributing to its superb profile, this facility also performed well in our long-term care area. In fact, we gave it a score of A- for the category. Nursing homes that do well in this category tend to be well-staffed and offer extensive hands on care to residents. Once we looked at the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination record. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia. Vaccines are critical to keeping residents healthy. Lastly, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

Turning to our third category, this facility also earned a grade of B+ for its short-term care rating. This is an above average score in this area. In determining our short-term care scores, we look at a nursing home's levels of highly skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other licensed professionals. This rating is generally a meaningful assessment of the facility's ability to rehabilitate patients. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not every nursing home employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the information they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The final item we considered in this area is the number of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We found that 5.5 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

The last category we looked at is nursing. In that area, we gave this facility an impressive grade of B. Our nursing grade analyzes the facility's nurse staffing levels. We consider both the levels of licensure of the nurses and the number of hours spent with patients. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This nursing home performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can often be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.
