While this place's overall grade was as bad as it gets, it actually didn't perform terribly in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a C for that category, which is one of our better scores. These inspection scores weigh several factors, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these items by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This place was assessed 7 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none were in categories G through L. This indicates inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies to be an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Unfortunately, we also need to draw your attention to the fact that this facility received some government fines in recent years.

Historical

We gave this facility a grade of just D for our nursing rating and that actually turned out to be its second highest score. Our nursing grade is mostly associated with a facility's nurse staffing. Quantity of nursing care does not appear to be the problem here. Based on the data, it looks like this facility provides an above average 4 hours per resident per day. This is more nursing care than most nursing homes provide. Despite being above average in terms of nursing hours, this place had abysmal scores in some of the quality-based measures we looked at in computing our nursing ratings. For starters, we looked at the percent of patients sustaining pressure ulcers. This place was at more than double the national average in this statistic. This is quite alarming when you consider that many bed sores are believed to be preventable with better nursing care. This ended up sealing the facility's fate of receiving a very poor nursing grade.

Short-term Care Quality

Unfortunately, this facility only earned a grade of D for its short-term care rating, which is not an impressive grade. In computing our short-term care scores, we quantify the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our goal is to devise a barometer for comparing the rehabilitation services of various nursing homes. Based on its score in this category, we weren't surprised to discover that this nursing home is well below average in terms of its number of physical therapy and registered nurse hours offered to its patients based on the measures we assessed. Honestly, this was what we expected here. The final metric we looked at in this category is the number of residents who were able to return home from the nursing home. This facility struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 33.9 percent of its residents returning home.

Long-term Care Quality

Historical

Turning to our last area, this nursing home really didn't fare well here either. With a very poor grade of F in long-term care, this is really as terrible as it gets. For patients seeking a permanent place to live as opposed to rehabilitation, long-term care grades are very important. After looking at the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 99.514565 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is more than the vast majority of nursing homes. To our surprise, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. While it had 2.45 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, its risk adjusted statistic wasn't bad since it had more complex patients.
