Facility Inspections

Grade: A

This facility earned a solid overall grade as described above, but we really wanted to point out its nearly flawless inspections in recent years. We awarded them an A in this category. Inspection grades are tied to items located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that score well in this area tend to have very few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these places generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. While this place had a few deficiencies on its report, none of them were severe based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is always a good sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

Another one of this facility's more favorable category scores came in the category of long-term care. In that area, we gave this facility a B+. It actually outpaced most nursing homes in this area. When facilities receive this kind of grade in long-term care it is typically a good sign for resident care and suggests that the nursing home is well-staffed with nurses and aids. In addition to considering the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The third category we assessed was short-term care. This facility's was given an abysmal short-term care score where it was given a lowly F. In our short-term care score, we endeavor to forge a fair barometer for rehabilitation services. In doing so, we assess a nursing home's levels of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. Not surprisingly, we learned that this place offers significantly less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than a typical facility. Lastly, we assessed the percentage of patients who ultimately were able to return home from this facility. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 0 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

The last category we assessed is nursing. It received an abysmal F in this area, which is a bottom of the barrel grade. This is obviously a major disappointment. We analyzed the qualifications of nurses at the facility, in addition to the quantity of time those nurses were with patients, in computing our score in this area. This nursing home provided only 0.2 hours of nursing care per resident daily. Finally, we also looked at a few quality-based metrics in determining our nursing scores. This facility was above average in two of the major data points we focus on, with good scores for minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. These statistics are typically good indicators of the quality of nursing care provided.
