Nurse Quality
Even though we graded this nursing home extremely poorly overall, it received a fairly respectable nursing grade this year. We gave it a B- in that area. Nursing scores are tied to nurse staffing levels. This nursing home provides 3.7 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also considered quality-based metrics in computing our nursing ratings. This place was above average in many of the major metrics we assessed, including minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. These metrics are generally reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care provided.
Short-term Care Quality
We were also stunned to learn that this nursing home earned a reasonably solid short-term care grade in our assessment. We awarded it a grade of C in that area. Short-term care grades are often employed to score a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation. To offer quality rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to provide better levels of skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other highly trained professionals. This nursing home boosted its score in this category by offering more than 50% more physical therapy hours to its residents than the average facility. The final item we considered in this category is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that just 44.2 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is actually below average.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility also didn't rate poorly in the category of long-term care. In fact, we awarded it a C in that area, which happens to be another one of its higher scores. In our long-term care score, we assess the sheer quantity of care provided by a facility, along with a handful of quality metrics. Once we assessed the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination data. We were concerned by the fact that this facility vaccinated a relatively low 43.98977 percent of its patients for pneumonia. The last datapoint we assessed is its hospitalization rate. Here we found that this place had 1.78 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is also slightly below average.
Facility Inspections
The last category we looked at is inspections. This nursing home did not receive positive government inspection reports in recent years. In fact, we gave it an F here. For nursing homes that received this bad of an inspection score, we would scrutinize the severe deficiencies on its inspection report. This particular nursing home was assessed one category J or K deficiency, which are among the worst deficiencies. This generally means that inspectors identified a deficiency which puts patient health or safety in immediate jeopardy. We are also concerned by the fact that this facility was flagged by CMS for possible abuse or neglect. We prefer to avoid facilities with this designation. Please do your best to find an alternative nursing home.
