Nurse Quality

Grade: A-plus

In addition to being a first rate nursing home overall, this facility also excelled in the category of nursing, where it received an A+. Few nursing homes fared better in this area. The nursing grade is based on a handful of components, however, the most important one is the number of nurse hours spent with patients. This facility boasts a really impressive 7.2 hours of nursing care per resident each day, of which a significant percentage was provided by registered nurses. This is one of the most highly highly skilled levels of nurses. This is one of the highest totals of nursing hours we were able to find. On top of offering high levels of nursing care, this place was also above average in several of the major quality measures we assessed in this category. It performed well in terms of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

This top notch nursing home also performed well in the category of short-term care, where we gave it a grade of A+. Only a small group of nursing homes performed better in this area. Our short-term care ratings are considered to be most meaningful for those in need of rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation typically mandates higher levels of highly-skilled nursing services. This means not only nursing services, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other types of therapy. Remarkably, this facility provides roughly 50% more hours of services from registered nurses and physical therapists than most facilities we assessed. This is a very favorable sign. The last measure we looked at in this category is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We found that it fared as well as just about any facility in Florida in this area with 69.1 percent of its residents returning home. Unfortunately, at most nursing homes, fewer than half of their short-term residents are able to return home.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

Adding to an already impressive profile, this facility also received virtually flawless health inspections in recent years. As a result, we awarded it an A+ inspection grade. Inspection ratings weigh a host of factors included in a facility's inspection report. One key criteria we weigh heavily is the number and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with better scores in this area tend to have very few severe deficiencies. While this facility had some minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means that CMS did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A couple minor dings are not necessarily something to panic about.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The last area we scored is long-term care. We gave this facility a solid score in that category, with a grade of B-. Although this is not as dominant as some of its other grades, it is nevertheless not the end of the world. In a long-term care environment, the facility's primary goal is to maintain residents' quality of life and keep them safe. On top of patient-friendly nursing hour statistics, this nursing home's vaccination data is better than most nursing homes also. Indeed, this facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia. This combination proved to be effective as this place keeps its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 1.52 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days.
