Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

This facility's best category grade came in long-term care. In that category, we awarded this nursing home a B+. It actually outpaced most nursing homes in this category. Facilities that receive this type of score in long-term care tend to provide consistent around the clock care to make sure residents are well cared for. Once we assessed the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination record. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients for pneumonia. Vaccines are critical to keeping patients healthy. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

One of the other reasons we rated this nursing home so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing score. Nursing turned out to be its second best category grade. In that category, we gave this facility an B. Nursing scores are based largely on quantity of nursing care available. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality-based metrics and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the nation in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as having a system of turning a resident even once per day.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B

This nursing home's third best category grade came in the area of government inspections. In that category, we gave this nursing home a B. It actually outperformed most facilities in this category. Our inspection grades are tied to items found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that score well in this area typically have few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these places generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. While this place had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means that CMS didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A couple relatively minor dings aren't the end of the world.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The final category we graded was short-term care. This nursing home was given a C for the category. In the area of short-term care, we endeavor to evaluate measures of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. We analyze the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including the ones performed by registered nurses and physical and occupational therapists. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. However, according to the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 3.6 percent of this facility's patients returned home. At most nursing homes, closer to half of their patients are able to return home so this figure is below average.
