Our short-term care scores are arguably more meaningful for residents needing rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation usually mandates higher levels of highly-skilled nursing services. This includes not merely nursing, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia. Vaccines are vital to keeping patients healthy. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.03 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

This facility also received favorable government inspections in recent years. We awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with a B. This grade is also better than the facility's overall score. Arguably the most important factor we look at in calculating our inspection grades is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities with higher grades in this area typically avoided the more severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. This particular nursing home received 2 deficiencies on its inspection report. Overall, this is still a good inspection report, but we'd always recommend looking into any deficiencies you find troubling.

This facility's least impressive category is nursing, which is the last area we assessed. For this area, we awarded this facility a grade of just D. Our nursing score is based on quite a few components, however, the main one is the level of nurse hours spent with patients. This facility provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. To pair with its subpar totals in the area of nursing hours per patient, this nursing home also didn't fare as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in calculating our nursing ratings. We looked at the percent of patients sustaining pressure ulcers and major falls. This nursing home had more falls and pressure ulcers than the average facility. This may be a bad sign when you consider that many falls and bed sores are preventable with better nursing care. Unfortunately, these scores hurt this facility's nursing grade quite a bit.
