Facility Inspections
Although we were not high on this place overall, we awarded it a B for our inspections category. This score is far more impressive than the nursing home's overall score. Inspection ratings weigh a host of factors found on a facility's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we weigh heavily is the number and severity of deficiencies. You should avoid places with a bunch of severe deficiencies flagged. Although this facility had a few deficiencies on its report, none of them were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. A couple minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.
Nurse Quality
We also ended up giving this facility a fairly respectable grade in the area of nursing, where it received a grade of B-. We looked at the levels of nurses at the nursing home, as well as the quantity of time those nurses worked with residents, in computing our score in this category. This place provides only 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident each day. This is a somewhat alarming figure as it is well below average. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics. Although this place got docked a bit for nursing hours per resident, it excelled in some of these quality-based metrics. With less than five percent of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, it fared very well in this subcategory. This is often an indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as by having a protocol of turning a patient more frequently.

Long-term Care Quality
The next highest area we awarded this nursing home in any area came in the area of long-term care, where we awarded it a C. For residents seeking a permanent place to live rather than rehabilitation, long-term care grades are an important measure. One of the datapoints we considered in addition to nursing hours was vaccines. We were a bit concerned this facility administered the pneumonia vaccine to only 78.37838 percent of its residents. Fortunately, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
Short-term Care Quality
The last category we graded is short-term care, which turned out to be this nursing home's least impressive category. We gave this nursing home a D in this area. In the area of short-term care, we try to evaluate indicators of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. We analyze the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. Given its weak score in this category, we were not stunned to discover that this facility offered far fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most facilities. Finally, we considered the percentage of residents that ultimately returned home from this facility. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 4.3 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.
