Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

One of the many reasons this place ended up being a quality nursing home is it received an A+ in our inspections category. This is simply as good as it gets in this category. Inspection grades are tied to items found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that excel in this category have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these facilities generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. Although this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. We should note that deficiency-free inspection reports are uncommon in the industry.

Nurse Quality

To complement its strong performance in other areas, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for our inspections rating. Our nursing score is primarily tied to a nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This place boasts an impressive 4 hours of nursing care per resident daily, of which more than one hour of these hours were provided by registered nurses. This is among the most highly skilled levels of nurses. Lastly, this facility also excelled in the quality-based metrics we assessed. It performed as well as any nursing home the nation in the area of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

The third category we analyzed is short-term care. Contributing to its first-rate resume, this nursing home also performed well in that area. In fact, we gave it a of A in that area. Short-term care grades are typically employed to score a facility's rehabilitation services In order to offer highly scored rehabilitation services, facilities generally must offer better levels of skilled nursing. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other highly skilled individuals. This facility elevated its grade in this category by offering more care from registered nurses than the average facility. The final metric we looked at in this category is the number of residents who eventually returned home from the facility. It performed as well as just about any facility in Washington with 56.8 percent of its residents returning home. At most facilities, less than half of their short-stay patients return home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The last category we looked at is this nursing home's weakest category. However, even in its worst category we still awarded it a respectable grade of C in our long-term care category. In computing our long-term care grades, we size up the personal care received by the nursing home's residents. After considering the very respectable amount of nursing care provided by this facility, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination record. This facility vaccinated 96.77419 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which appears to be higher than many nursing homes. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
