We want to point out that this nursing home really outperformed its overall score in the area of inspections. In fact, it received an excellent government inspection report this year. As a result, we gave it one of our best scores in that area with a grade of A. Our inspection grades are tied to items found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that excel in this area have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these facilities should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. Although this facility had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. A couple of minor deficiencies should not lead you to cross a nursing home off your list.

This nursing home also received a strong long-term care score. In fact, we gave it a B in that area, which happens to be one of our better. Nursing homes that receive this kind of grade in this category typically provide consistent 24/7 care to ensure residents are kept in good health. Once we concluded our assessment of the amount of care provided by nurses, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination records. This nursing home vaccinated 99.619774 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is very impressive. Pneumonia sadly can be a life or death health condition for nursing home residents so we prefer when a nursing home does not leave this to chance. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Next we looked at nursing grades, where this nursing home received an F, which is a rock bottom grade. This area was definitely not a strength for this facility. When determining our nursing ratings, we assess both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the skill levels of those nurses. This particular facility offered a meager 0.2 hours of nursing care per resident each day. This number is well below average. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing grades. This place fared well in the area of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.

This nursing home's weakest category was short-term care, which is the final area we scored. Sadly, it received an abysmal F in this category. Even with some solid grades in other areas, this score is nevertheless alarming so we wanted to make sure you are aware. Short-term care ratings are based on the nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled nursing services. This means a wide spectrum of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, in addition to other variations of therapy. Given its grade in this area, we weren't stunned to discover that this place is well below average in terms of the quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its residents based on the figures we looked at. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. This was not a strength for this nursing home. We found that just 3.9 percent of this facility's residents returned home. At most facilities, around half of their residents are able to return home so this is well below average.
