Facility Inspections

Grade: A

To pair with its decent overall grade, we awarded this nursing home an A for its inspection grade. This is far better than the facility's overall score. Arguably the most important factor we look at in determining our inspection ratings is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Facilities with higher grades in this area typically dodged the most severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. While this facility had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means the inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is always a good sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

We also gave this nursing home an impressive grade in long-term care. This facility earned a grade of B+ in this category, which is one of our better grades. If you are seeking anything other than rehabilitation, you should take a close look at long-term care grades. In addition to looking at the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility vaccinated 86.31713 percent of its patients. This is a few points lower than we expected but still a reasonably acceptable percentage. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Unfortunately, this facility's third best category was short-term care. Nevertheless, with a grade of D in this area, it still performed somewhat poorly. In the area of short-term care, we seek to evaluate indicators of a facility's rehabilitation services. We look at the facility's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. With a grade of this caliber in this area, we were not surprised to learn that this nursing home was well below average in the two key staffing areas we focus on. In fact, it offered far fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other nursing homes. Finally, we considered the number of patients that who were able to eventually return home from this nursing home. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 4.9 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

The final category we analyzed is nursing. We gave it an F in this category, which is a bottom of the barrel grade. This is obviously a significant disappointment. There are a number of criteria within this grade. Most of the criteria relate to levels of nurse staffing. This place provided a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident each day. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing ratings. This nursing home fared well when it comes to minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these statistics to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.
