Facility Inspections
In addition to earning a great overall rating, this nursing home also performed well in inspections, which is based on the facility's inspection reports. We awarded it an A for that category. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing these inspection scores. One of those factors is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies end up being relatively minor. While this nursing home had some deficiencies on its report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor leaves us less concerned with this inspection report.
Short-term Care Quality
On the list of its many dominant scores, this nursing home received a strong short-term care score. In fact, it received a score of A- in this area. With our short-term care grade, we strive to craft a sound measure for rehabilitation services. In this process, we assess the facility's levels of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. One of this nursing home's strengths is registered nurse hours. We found that it offers more care from registered nurses to its residents than most facilities. The last item we looked at in this category is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. This place fared as well as just about any nursing home in California in this area with 71.1 percent of its patients returning home. With most nursing homes, fewer than half of their short-stay residents are able to return home.
Long-term Care Quality
The next category we looked at was long-term care. Contributing to its strong profile, this nursing home also performed well in this category. In fact, we gave it a of A- for the area. Facilities that excel in long-term care tend to be well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to patients. In addition to considering the impressive volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff at this facility, we also were pleased by the facility's vaccination record. For example, this facility provided the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is an impressive figure. The last statistic we looked at is the nursing home's hospitalization rate. Here we found that this nursing home had 2.53 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days.
Nurse Quality
Switching gears to our fourth category, this nursing home was given a high-end nursing grade. Even though this isn't nearly as impressive as several of its other grades, this is still one of the better scores a facility can receive. The nursing rating weighs many data points, most of which are associated with nursing hours. This particular nursing home provided 5.3 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis, which was among the highest totals we found. Lastly, this nursing home also performed well in several of the quality measures we assessed. In terms of the percentage of its residents suffering falls leading to serious injury, this nursing home performed as well as any facility in the nation.
