Registered Staff Hours
Nurse Quality
On top of having a decent overall grade, we also wanted to point out that this facility received favorable nursing marks this year. We awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with a grade of B+. This proved to be the facility's top grade. When determining a facility's nursing rating, we consider the amount of time nurses spend with patients as well as the level of licensure of the nurses. This particular nursing home provided 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This nursing home performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can many times be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.
Long-term Care Quality
Additionally, we also wanted to draw your attention to the fact that this nursing home was awarded favorable long-term care marks this year. We gave them one of our higher grades in that category, with a grade of B+. This turned out to be the facility's second strongest score. For patients seeking a permanent residence rather than rehabilitation, long-term care grades are an important measure. After considering the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 70 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is a bit less than we were hoping for but still a decent figure. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Facility Inspections
This facility's third best category grade came in the area of government inspections. In that category, we gave this nursing home a B. It actually outperformed most facilities in this category. These inspection ratings weigh several factors, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can learn more about each of these factors by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This particular nursing home received 4 deficiencies on its inspection report. Overall, this is still a good inspection report, but we'd always recommend looking into any deficiencies you find troubling.
Short-term Care Quality
Turning to the next area, this nursing home didn't fare very well. Due to a rock bottom grade of F in short-term care, this is this facility's worst area. Short-term care grades are typically used to grade a facility's rehabilitation services. To have highly scored rehabilitation services, facilities generally must provide higher levels of skilled nursing. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other licensed professionals. We found that this place was subpar in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its residents based on the staffing figures we looked at. The last measure we looked at in this area is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 3.4 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these subpar metrics was damning for this facility's short-term care grade.
