On top of performing well in its overall grade, this nursing home performed at an even higher level in the area of inspections. In fact, it received a nearly flawless inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our highest grades in that category with a score of A+. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating these inspection grades. One critical factor is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some of these end up being quite minor. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even some of the best nursing homes receive an occasional ding on their inspection report.
Short-term Care Quality
This facility also was given an impressive short-term care score. Indeed, we awarded it an above average grade of B+ in this area. Our short-term care grade is often used to score a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation. In order to have high-end rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to feature better levels of highly skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other highly trained professionals. Fortunately, this nursing home offers both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities offer both. Finally, we considered the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home, which as an area this nursing home performed much more favorably. It outperformed the vast majority of nursing homes in the country in this area with 68.4 percent of its residents returning home. This is a significantly higher rate than most nursing homes.

Long-term Care Quality
The next area we graded was long-term care. In that area, we gave this nursing home a solid grade of B-. In the area of long-term care, we analyze the amount of care provided by a facility, rather than more healthcare-oriented services. In addition to looking at the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 99.57265 percent of its patients, which is higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. This nursing home keeps its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 1.12 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a much lower hospitalization rate than most nursing homes.
The next area we rated is nursing. This nursing home was awarded a C in this area. We analyzed the qualifications of nurses employed by the nursing home, in addition to the quantity of time those nurses worked with residents, in calculating our rating in this category. This nursing home provides only 3.2 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This is a somewhat alarming figure which is well below average. Finally, our nursing ratings also factor in quality-based measures, such as preventing major falls. Despite not having the highest total nursing hours per resident, this facility actually performed admirably in the area of preventing major falls. This is typically a good indicator that a facility has sufficient quality controls in place. Some falls can be avoided if a nursing home provides enough nurses to assist its patients.
