Facility Inspections

Grade: B-minus

Although we did not rate this nursing home well overall, we wanted to point out its decent inspections in recent years. We gave it a somewhat respectable score of B- in this category. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing our inspection scores. One of those factors is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies end up being relatively insignificant. This particular nursing home received 8 deficiencies on its inspection report. Another area of concern is that CMS flagged this nursing home for possible abuse or neglect. This is not what you want to see. We advise you to direct your search elsewhere.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

We also awarded this facility a grade of B- for our nursing rating. Nursing grades are mostly tied to the nursing home's nurse staffing. This place provides 0 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This is a lower figure than we were hoping for. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality measures. While this nursing home got dinged a bit for nursing hours, it actually excelled in some of these quality measures. With less than five percent of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, it did very well in this subcategory. This is often a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can frequently be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as by having a protocol of moving patients more frequently.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This facility's third most favorable category ended up being short-term care. In that area, we gave this nursing home a grade of B-. With our short-term care assessment, we strive to forge a sound measure for rehabilitation. In this process, we look at a facility's levels of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. We were surprised to find that this facility was below average in the two key staffing areas we focus on. It offered fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other facilities. It is still important to determine whether this also correlates to a lower quality of care. The last item we assessed in this area is the percentage of patients who who were able to eventually return home from the nursing home. We found that just 0 percent of this facility's residents returned home. Unfortunately, this was below average.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

Our final area is long-term care, in which we gave this facility a B- in that category. If you are seeking anything other than short-term rehabilitation, you should take a close look at long-term care grades. On top of considering the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. We found that this nursing home administered the vaccine to only 51.562504 percent of its residents, which is somewhat alarming. On a more positive note, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.03 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
