Facility Inspections
This nursing home received a solid overall grade as described above, but we really wanted to emphasize its excellent inspection reports in recent years. We gave them an A- in this category. Inspection scores are based on many pieces of information found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that receive favorable grades in this category have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Based on this, we still had favorable view of this facility's inspections.
Long-term Care Quality
We also awarded this nursing home an impressive score in long-term care. This nursing home received a grade of B+ in this category, which turns out to be one of our more favorable scores. In a long-term care environment, the nursing home's primary goal is to maintain residents' quality of life and keep them safe. In addition to looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 87.71499 percent of its patients, which is a bit below what we anticipated. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Nurse Quality
Next, we looked at the nursing category where we awarded this nursing home a grade of C, which is a decent grade. Our nursing grade is based on the facility's nurse staffing levels. We factor in both the levels of training of the nurses and the quantity of hours spent with residents. This facility provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a low total compared with most nursing homes. Lastly, while this facility got docked a bit for nursing hours, it excelled in a few of our quality-based metrics. With less than five percent of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, it did very well in this area.
Short-term Care Quality
The last category we scored is short-term care. We gave it an abysmal F for this category, which is a poor grade. This is clearly a significant concern. In crafting these short-term care scores, we assess the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our objective is to devise a measure for comparing the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. With a score in this range in this area, we weren't stunned to find that this nursing home was well below average in two of the key staffing metrics we looked at. It offered significantly fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other nursing homes. Lastly, we looked at the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that just 3.8 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.
