Registered Staff Hours
Short-term Care Quality
Even though we graded this facility incredibly poorly overall, it received a fairly respectable short-term care grade this year. We gave it a B- in that category, which was the closest thing to a bright spot we found for this place. In the area of short-term care, we strive to qualify indicators of a nursing home's rehabilitation. We analyze a nursing home's skilled nursing services, including the ones performed by registered nurses and physical and occupational therapists. In this nursing home's case, we were surprised to learn that it actually provides less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than the typical facility. The hope is always that this does not adversely affect the quality of care. Finally, we considered the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 5.5 percent of this facility's patients returned home. At most facilities, closer to half of their residents are able to return home so this figure is below average.
Nurse Quality
We were also surprised to find that this facility received a decent nursing grade this year. We gave it a grade of C in that category. Nursing scores are tied to quantity of nursing care available. This nursing home averages just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low figure. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this place actually excelled in some of the quality measures we looked at. It performed well in terms of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. Many consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care. In many cases, the quality of nursing care is every bit as important as the quantity of hours of care provided.

Facility Inspections
We also wanted to draw your attention to this place's inspection grade where it received an F. You should pay close attention to any deficiencies on a nursing home's inspection reports when it receives this bad of an inspection score. We recommend you scrutinize the severity of those deficiencies. This nursing home had 5 deficiencies by CMS. The only favorable thing we found is that none of the deficiencies were in the categories that suggest they created a threat to resident safety or health. Lastly, we need to point out that this facility was assessed significant government fines amounting to over $100,000. This often indicates that a nursing home's poor performance has been an issue for more than one year.
Long-term Care Quality
The next category we assessed was long-term care. This nursing home was given a poor grade of F in that area. Long-term care ratings in this range generally are a bad sign for the quantity and quality of care provided by nurses and aids, as well as the levels of routine medical care available. One of the factors we considered in addition to nurse's aid hours is vaccinations. We were a bit alarmed this facility administered the pneumonia vaccination to a relatively low 87.84195 percent of its residents. Surprisingly, this place was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility had fewer hospitalizations than most nursing homes. This was its best feature in this category.
