Facility Inspections
On top of receiving a strong overall score, this nursing home also earned excellent inspections recently. We gave it one of our best scores in that category, with an A. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing our inspection scores. One critical factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies can be quite insignificant. This facility was assessed 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none of the deficiencies were considered to be major deficiencies. This indicates that CMS didn't consider any of these deficiencies to cause an immediate risk to resident health or safety. A few relatively minor dings aren't necessarily something to panic about.
Short-term Care Quality
To add to its first-rate assessments in other areas, we gave this facility a grade of A- for its short-term care score. Our short-term care scores are arguably most critical for residents requiring rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation generally utilizes higher levels of skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes not only nursing, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other types of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this facility employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. However, according to the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last statistic we looked at in this category is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We found that 5.8 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.

Nurse Quality
This facility also excelled in the area of nursing, where it received a grade of A-. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. Nursing grades are heavily correlated with nurse staffing levels. This facility provided 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This facility performed very well when it comes to avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.
Long-term Care Quality
The last area we graded was long-term care. This nursing home was awarded a better than average nursing score this year, with a B. While this isn't as elite as a few of its other scores, this remains one of our stronger grades for that area. When facilities receive a grade in this range in this category it typically means it has plenty of staff and is a quality place to live on a permanent basis. In addition to assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 98.14815 percent of its patients. Vaccines are critical to keeping residents healthy. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
