This facility excelled in the area of long-term care, where it received an A-. Few facilities performed better in this category. If not for this category, this facility's overall grade would have likely been lower. Facilities that receive this kind of score in long-term care tend to provide consistent 24/7 care to ensure patients are kept in good health. On top of considering the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 49.848022 percent of its residents. This is a few points lower than we expected but still a reasonably acceptable figure. While its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we like to see, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Surprisingly, this facility actually received a good score in inspections as well. In fact, we awarded it a grade of B- for that category, which is one of our better scores. Our inspection grades weigh a host of factors included in a nursing home's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we look at is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Although this place had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is always a good sign.

The last category we looked at was nursing, was this nursing home's least impressive category. We awarded this nursing home a D in that area. Our nursing rating features numerous data points. The most important factor is the number of hours nurses spent with residents. With a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident daily, this place's nurse staffing levels were quite a bit below the national average. On top of receiving below average scores for total nursing hours, this facility was a bit less impressive in some of the quality-based measures we looked at in determining our nursing ratings. We looked at the percent of patients suffering pressure ulcers and found that this facility was at roughly 150 percent of the national average in this metric. This is likely a bad sign when you consider that many bed sores are believed to be preventable with better nursing care. Unfortunately, this statistic really pulled down this facility's nursing score substantially.
