Medical Staff Hours Per Patient (2019)
To pair with a strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for inspections. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining these inspection grades. One critical factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more important than the number of deficiencies, as some of these end up being relatively insignificant. While this nursing home had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were serious based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
We also wanted to point out the fact that this nursing home was superb in our short-term care rating. We awarded them a dominant score of A+ in this category. In crafting our short-term care ratings, we assess the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our goal is to formulate a scale for sizing up the rehabilitation services of various nursing homes. We weren't able to find information on registered nurse or physical therapy staffing for this nursing home. This facility fared much better in the final metric we considered in this area, which was the number of residents who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We found that it performed as well as just about any nursing home in North Carolina in this area with 80.3 percent of its residents returning home. At most nursing homes, fewer than half of their short-stay patients are able to return home.
Long-term Care Quality
Moving on our next category, this nursing home was given a top-shelf long-term care score. In fact, it received a score of A- in that area. If you are seeking services other than short-term rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each nursing home's long-term care grades. One of the factors we considered in addition to nurse's aid hours was vaccinations. It doesn't appear that this nursing home provided information on its vaccination levels. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
In our final area, this facility also received a very strong nursing score, with a grade of B+. This topped off a first-rate report card. When computing our nursing scores, we analyze both nursing hours and the skill levels of those nurses. This nursing home provides 0 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This nursing home performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can generally be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.
