Facility Inspections

On top of being a quality facility overall, this nursing home really excelled in our inspections category, where it earned an A. Not many nursing homes performed better in this category. Perhaps the most important factor we look at in determining our inspection scores is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes with better scores in this area most likely avoided the more severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. While this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

Contributing to this nursing home's list of strengths, it also received a first-rate long-term care grade. We gave them an elite grade of A in this area. For prospective residents looking for a permanent place to live rather than skilled nursing, long-term care grades are very important. In addition to assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility vaccinated 66.17143 percent of its patients, which is slightly lower than we expected. While its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we had hoped, we were pleased to find facility was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.03 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

This nursing home's next best category was short-term care. We awarded it a grade of C in this category. This is basically a middle of the pack score in this category. Short-term care grades are typically used to judge a facility's performance with rehabilitation In order to offer highly rated rehabilitation services, facilities generally must feature better levels of skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other types of therapists. It does not look like this nursing home provided information on registered nurse or physical therapist staffing. The last statistic we considered in this category is the number of residents who ultimately returned home from the nursing home. We found that just 0 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home. Unfortunately, this was below the national average.
