To pair with its relatively modest overall score, we gave this facility an A+ for our inspections rating. This is far more impressive than the facility's overall grade. Inspection grades weigh several factors, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these issues by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This nursing home was assessed 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered to be severe deficiencies. This indicates that CMS did not consider any of the deficiencies to cause an imminent risk to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is always a good sign.

This facility also received a favorable score in our long-term care category. We gave this nursing home an above average grade of B+ in that category. Facilities that excel in long-term care typically provide residents with better supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. In addition to looking at the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 99.88318 percent of its patients, which is very impressive. Pneumonia is too frequently a life threatening ailment for nursing home residents so we strongly prefer when a facility doesn't roll the dice on this issue. This facility was also able to keep its residents out of the hospital. While it had 2.42 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, its risk adjusted metric was better than the majority of nursing homes since it had more complicated patients.

This nursing home ended up receiving a bottom of the barrel grade in our short-term care area. It received a lowly F in this area. Short-term care grades are often used to judge a nursing home's rehabilitation services In order to provide high-end rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must have better levels of highly skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other highly trained professionals. With its score in this category, we were not stunned to discover that this place was well below average in terms of its number of registered nurse and physical therapy hours provided to its patients based on the measures we assessed. Honestly, this was about what we expected here. The last statistic we assessed in this category is the number of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 34.2 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these poor metrics sunk this nursing home's short-term care score.

The final area we analyzed was nursing, which proved to be this nursing home's worst area. It received a lowly F in this area, which is obviously very disappointing. Nursing ratings are heavily correlated with quality and quantity of nursing care. With just 2.8 hours of nursing care per resident each day, this place's nurse staffing levels were significantly below the national average. Lastly, we also looked at a few quality measures in calculating our nursing grades. This place was above average in two of the statistics we focus on, with good scores for minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. These data points are often reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care available.
