Facility Inspections
The primary reason this nursing home received a decent overall score is its impeccable government inspections in recent years. We gave it one of our better grades in that area, with an A+. This is a notably better score than the place's overall score, which was decent but certainly not elite. Perhaps the most critical factor we look at in computing our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a facility's inspection reports. Nursing homes with better grades in this category most likely dodged the more severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. This nursing home was hit with 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered severe. This means that the inspectors didn't deem any of these deficiencies to be an immediate threat to patient safety or health. A couple minor deficiencies shouldn't stop you from considering a nursing home.
Long-term Care Quality
We also wanted to note that this nursing home received a strong long-term care score. In fact, we gave it one of our best scores in this area with a score of A-. Long-term care ratings in this range generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. After we finished looking at the amount of nursing care, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This nursing home vaccinated 99.3228 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is very impressive. Pneumonia tragically can be a deadly health condition for nursing home residents so we prefer when a nursing home doesn't leave this to chance. Lastly, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality
The next area we graded is short-term care. This nursing home's received a low-end short-term care score where it received an F. In computing our short-term care ratings, we analyze a facility's levels of highly skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other licensed professionals. This grade is more often than not a fair measure of a facility's rehabilitation. With a score in this range in this category, we were not surprised to discover that this nursing home was below average in several staffing metrics we focus on. The nursing home supplied significantly fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than most other facilities. The last metric we considered in this category is the percentage of patients that were able to return home from the nursing home. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 4.2 percent of its residents returning home.
Nurse Quality
Turning to the next area, this facility didn't perform well. Due to a bottom of the barrel grade of F in nursing, this was this facility's weakest category. Our nursing rating features several factors. The most important variable is the amount of time nurses spend with residents. This particular nursing home provided a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This figure is well below average. In addition to receiving below average scores for nursing hours, this nursing home was a bit less impressive in some of the quality-based measures we looked at in calculating our nursing scores. We looked at the percentage of patients experiencing pressure ulcers and found this nursing home was at roughly 150 percent of the national average in this metric. This is likely a bad sign when you consider that many pressure ulcers are preventable with better nursing care. Unfortunately, this statistic pulled down this nursing home's nursing rating substantially.
