Facility Inspections
In addition to being a top notch nursing home overall, it also excelled in the area of inspections, where it received an A. Few nursing homes performed better in this category. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing these inspection grades. One critical factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some of these are quite minor. This facility was hit with 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered severe. This means that the government inspectors didn't consider any of these deficiencies to cause an imminent risk to patient health or safety. The fact that none of the deficiencies were severe made us feel better about this inspection report.
Nurse Quality
This facility also excelled in the area of nursing, where it received a grade of A-. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. Nursing scores are primarily tied to a nursing home's nurse staffing. This particular nursing home provided 3.6 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This nursing home performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can typically be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home also was awarded an impressive long-term care grade. Indeed, we gave it an above average grade of B+ in this category. Nursing homes that excel in long-term care tend to provide residents with better supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. On top of considering the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its patients. Vaccines are vital to keeping patients out of the hospital. Lastly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.74 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
Short-term Care Quality
Moving on to our fourth category, this facility was given an excellent short-term care rating. Even though this isn't quite as dominant as some of its other category grades, this remains one of the stronger scores we offer. Our short-term care grades are presumably more meaningful for residents requiring rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation generally requires additional skilled nursing. This means not only nursing services, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. Fortunately, this nursing home offers both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities offer both. The last metric we looked at in this area is the number of residents who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. It was respectable in this area with 48.1 percent of its residents returning home.
