Facility Inspections
The main reason this turned out to be a decent nursing home is that it earned an excellent inspection score. Its inspection score was far superior to its overall grade. In the inspections category, we gave it an A. Perhaps the most important factor we look at in determining our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Nursing homes with better grades in this area most likely dodged the more severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even some of the best nursing homes receive an occasional ding on their inspection report.
Short-term Care Quality
Additionally, we also wanted to point out that this nursing home was given positive short-term care marks this year. We awarded them one of our more impressive grades in this area, with a grade of B. This turned out to be the facility's second highest score. Short-term care grades are often used to measure a nursing home's rehabilitation services. In order to provide high-end rehabilitation services, facilities generally must offer better levels of highly skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other highly skilled individuals. Fortunately, it appear that this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not every facility employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Lastly, we assessed the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 5.7 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.

Nursing ratings are primarily tied to a nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home averages just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low figure. Lastly, despite not having the most impressive total nursing hours, this facility performed admirably in the metric of preventing major falls. This is often a reliable indicator that a nursing home has quality controls in place.
Long-term Care Quality
Moving on to our final area, this facility received a decent long-term care grade of C. In a long-term care environment, the facility's primary objective is to maintain residents' quality of life and keep them safe. Once we assessed the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This facility vaccinated 99.2714 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is more than the average nursing home. Finally, this facility was also able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
