Facility Inspections
We want to point out that this facility really outperformed its overall score in the category of inspections. In fact, it received a nearly flawless inspection report this year. As a result, we gave it one of our highest scores in that area with an A. Arguably the most significant factor we look at in calculating our inspection scores is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Places with higher grades in this area typically dodged the most severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. Although this place had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were severe based on CMS' scale. A couple minor dings aren't necessarily the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility received its next best category grade in the category of long-term care. We gave this nursing home a B- in this category, which is an acceptable grade. For prospective residents in need of a permanent place to live as opposed to rehabilitation, long-term care grades are very important. After assessing the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we next considered the facility's vaccination statistics. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is more than most nursing homes. Lastly, this nursing home was also able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home's next best category was short-term care. In that area, we gave this facility a grade of B-. Short-term care grades are often used to assess a nursing home's rehabilitation services To have high-end rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally need to offer higher levels of skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other highly trained professionals. Unfortunately, it does not appear that this nursing home provided information on registered nurse or physical therapist staffing. The last statistic we looked at in this category is the percentage of residents that eventually returned home from the nursing home. We found that just 5.3 percent of this facility's patients returned home. Unfortunately, this was below the national average.
Nurse Quality
The last area we rated was nursing. We awarded this facility a grade of C in that area. Our nursing score is based on the nursing home's nurse staffing levels. We weigh both the levels of skill of those nurses and the quantity of hours spent with patients. This place averages just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis, which is not an impressive total. Although this nursing home didn't really impress in terms of the quantity of nursing care available, it surprisingly performed admirably in a few of our quality-based metrics. It was above average in two of the subcategories we assess, with positive reviews for minimizing its patients' major falls and pressure ulcers.
