Facility Inspections
The primary reason this turned out to be a decent nursing home is that it received an excellent inspection grade. Its inspection score was far superior to its overall score. In our inspections category, we gave this facility an A-. Arguably the most critical factor we consider in calculating our inspection grades is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Nursing homes with higher grades in this area typically dodged the most severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. Although this place had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. A couple minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we rated this nursing home so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing grade. In that category, we awarded this nursing home an B+. There are a variety of factors within this category. Most of these datapoints relate to the quantity and quality of nurse staffing. This facility provided 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the country in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as by having a protocol of turning a resident at least once a day.

Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home's next best category was short-term care. We gave it a B- in this area. This is basically a middle of the pack score in this area. In our short-term care grade, we try to forge a fair barometer for rehabilitation. In doing so, we analyze the facility's level of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not every facility employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the information this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Finally, we considered the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 5.1 percent of this facility's patients returned home. At most facilities, closer to half of their patients are able to return home so this figure is below average.
Long-term Care Quality
Switching gears to our last category, this nursing home was given a C for long-term care, which is generally a respectable rating. For patients seeking a permanent place to live as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care is a very important category. On top of assessing the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility vaccinated 93.27731 percent of its patients. This is a few points lower than we expected but still a respectable figure. Fortunately, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
