Facility Inspections
In addition to being a first rate facility overall, this nursing home excelled in the area of inspections, where it earned an A+. Very few facilities performed this well in this area. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining our inspection ratings. One critical factor is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more important than the number of deficiencies, as some of these end up being relatively insignificant. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like we were able to find deficiency data for this nursing home. We wish we had more information about this facility. Without having all of the deficiency related data, it is difficult to evaluate this nursing home in the inspections category.
Nurse Quality
Adding to its impressive resume, this nursing home also excelled in our nursing category. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A for that category. Nursing scores are primarily based on the facility's level of nurse staffing. With 5.6 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis, this place surpassed the overwhelming majority of nursing homes. Finally, this facility was also above average in each of the major quality measures we assessed in this category. By way of illustration, it performed well in the area of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. These areas are generally reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care a nursing home provides.
Long-term Care Quality
The third category we assessed was long-term care. This nursing home was given a very positive long-term care score, with a B+ in this area. Nursing homes that do well in this category tend to provide residents with closer supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. On top of providing very impressive levels of nurse staffing, this nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccine to 98.941795 percent of its residents. This figure is also much higher than the majority of nursing homes. This combination proved to be effective as this nursing home was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 1.66 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days.
Short-term Care Quality
The next category we rated is short-term care. This facility received a favorable short-term care score this year, with a B-. Even though this was not nearly as good as some of its other grades, this is still a respectable score in that area. In determining our short-term care scores, we analyze a nursing home's levels of skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other licensed professionals. This rating is often a fair assessment of the nursing home's rehabilitation. Fortunately, this nursing home offers both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities offer both. The last measure we considered in this area is the number of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 44.7 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is actually below average.
