Although we gave this facility a terrible overall grade, we awarded it a B- for our inspections rating. In fact, the facility received very impressive inspection report this year. Inspection ratings are tied to many items found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are a key item to look for on these inspections. Severe deficiencies indicate a risk to resident safety. This nursing home was assessed 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe. This indicates that the inspectors didn't consider any of these deficiencies to cause an immediate risk to patient health or safety. Finally, CMS flagged this nursing home for possible abuse or neglect. This is not what you want to see. We advise you to direct your search elsewhere.

One of the other reasons we rated this facility so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing grade. This turned out to be its second best category grade. In that category, we awarded this facility an D. The nursing category assesses a handful of factors, many of which are based on levels of nurse staffing. With just 2.2 hours of nursing care per resident each day, this nursing home's nurse staffing levels were well below the national average. Lastly, we also looked at some quality measures in calculating our nursing grades. This nursing home was above average in two of the major datapoints we focus on, with good scores for avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.

Long-term Care Quality

As it turns out, this facility only earned a grade of D for its long-term care score, which is not a very good score. For prospective patients in need of a permanent residence as opposed to rehabilitation, long-term care is a very important category. Once we looked at the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is higher than most nursing homes. To our surprise, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 1.12 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home has fewer hospitalizations than most nursing homes. Sadly, a few of its other scores in the category weren't as favorable as these.

Short-term Care Quality

The next area we assessed is short-term care. This nursing home was given a poor grade of F in that category. Our short-term care grade is often used to gauge a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation. To provide highly scored rehabilitation services, facilities generally must have higher levels of skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other highly trained professionals. Considering its score in this category, we weren't stunned to learn that this facility is well below average in terms of the number of registered nurse and physical therapy hours provided to its residents based on the data we looked at. Finally, we assessed the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that just 16.7 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.
