Facility Inspections
While this nursing home's overall score was as bad as it gets, it performed pretty well in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a B for that area, which is one of our better scores. Our inspection ratings are based on items found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are an important item to look for on these inspections. You should especially avoid facilities with severe deficiencies associated with endangerment of patients. Although this facility had some deficiencies on its report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. A few minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
Sadly, we gave this facility an F for its long-term care grade. When facilities receive a grade in this range in long-term care it generally means the facility did not perform well in our quality measures relating to resident care. In addition to considering the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. Candidly, we were a bit bothered by the fact that this facility gave the vaccine to only 77.847115 percent of its residents. To our surprise, this facility was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility has less hospitalizations than many nursing homes. This is its best feature in this category.

Nurse Quality
We also wanted to draw your attention to this facility's poor nursing grade where it received an F. The nursing score weighs a variety of subcategories. The most heavily weighted variable is the amount of time nurses spent with residents. With just 0.2 hours of nursing care per patient per day, this facility's nurse staffing levels were far below average. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in calculating our nursing scores. This nursing home performed well when it comes to avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.
Short-term Care Quality
The last category we scored is short-term care, in which this facility received an abysmal grade in this area as well. Sadly, it received an abysmal F for this category, which is definitely somewhat alarming. Short-term care grades are typically used to measure a nursing home's rehabilitation services. To offer quality rehabilitation services, facilities generally must offer higher levels of highly skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other types of therapists. As you might expect, we discovered that this facility provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than the average facility. Lastly, we assessed the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that just 4.2 percent of this facility's residents returned home.
