Short-term Care Quality
This facility really excelled in the category of short-term care, where it received an impressive grade of A+. Few nursing homes fared better in this category. If it was not for this area, this nursing home's overall score would have been much worse. With our short-term care grade, we strive to create a valuable measure for rehabilitation. In doing so, we analyze the facility's level of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. This facility excelled at the highest level in the two key staffing areas we looked at. It offered about 50% more care from physical therapists and registered nurses than the average nursing home. This is an excellent sign. The last metric we looked at in this category is the number of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We found that it fared as well as just about any nursing home in New Jersey in this area with 63.2 percent of its patients returning home. For most nursing homes, fewer than half of their short-term residents are able to return home.
Nurse Quality
This facility also excelled in the area of nursing care, with an impressive grade of A in this category. Nursing scores are based largely on quality and quantity of nursing care. This nursing home provided 5.1 hours of nursing care per patient each day. Approximately one quarter of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which are among the most skilled levels of nurses. Both are impressive figures, which typically leads to quality care. Lastly, this facility also performed above average in several of the quality-based metrics we looked at. In terms of the number of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, this place performed better than the national average.
Long-term Care Quality
The third best category we gave this nursing home in any category came in the category of long-term care, where we gave it a grade of B-. In our long-term care score, we focus more on the quantity of care offered by a facility, along with a handful of qualitative metrics. In addition to considering the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 93.57542 percent of its residents, which is somewhat below what we anticipated. Nevertheless, this nursing home keeps its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had just 1.23 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a significantly lower hospitalization rate than the average nursing home.
Facility Inspections
Moving on our last category of inspections, this facility received a grade that's as bad as it gets. With an F in the inspection category, this facility's overall grade was pulled down significantly. For nursing homes with poor inspection scores, you should really focus on any severe deficiencies found on their recent inspection reports. This facility was hit with a deficiency by government inspectors. Fortunately, it wasn't in a category that suggests that it posed a risk to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility also received 6 substantiated complaints in recent years. This is yet another bad sign.
